Happy Labour Day

2 MIN READ

Labour Day is a yearly reminder of the incredible things that result when people work together to make progress in a community they care about.

We simply could not do what we do at United Way without the critical and historical relationship with local Labour groups.

In fact, in 1927 with support from the Chamber of Commerce, and what would become The Hamilton District Labour Council, the very first campaign raised $106,000 for 19 agencies. Following that, more than 60 years ago, the Halton Labour community kicked off its first campaign. That’s almost 100 years of community support.

As United Way has grown and evolved, Labour has been there every step of the way.

Labour partners work tirelessly with us and all the agencies we fund to support those in our communities who rely on accessible, high-quality social programs.

For decades, since the very founding of United Way, Labour has led the community in bringing people together to do great work for those in need. The commitment of Labour leaders and workers of all kinds remains strong.

Just as we are grateful for all the ways Labour groups have brought numerous benefits to vulnerable workers in modern history, we are equally grateful for all the ways they continue to fight for the vulnerable today.

United Way Hamilton & Halton will continue to rely on the support of Labour organizations and their critical workplace campaigns, their sponsorship, support and participation in our fundraising events, and their continued advocacy work to lift up those in need.

Every instance of human progress has required a concerted, unified effort that brings people together to work with a common purpose. Our Labour partners share our commitment to ensuring that no one in our community is left behind and that everyone is given an equal opportunity to thrive.

Labour is at the heart of our community and the work of United Way.

Happy Labour Day.
