As we celebrate Giving Tuesday, a day that shines a spotlight on the spirit of generosity and compassion, I’d like to reflect on the pressing issues our communities face and the critical role that United Way Halton & Hamilton plays in providing a network of support for those in need.
Our region, like many others, is home to diverse individuals and families, each with their unique stories and struggles. Unfortunately, there are still many among us who face daunting challenges. Poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, housing instability, and mental health issues are all too prevalent in our community.
The need for help is real, and it’s growing. There are countless individuals and families who are on the edge, facing hardship and uncertainty. Our role is to bring people and resources together quickly to build strong, healthy, and safe communities for all.
A network of support
When individuals come forward for help, they are often accessing multiple programs. Needs are often complex. United Way is the safety net that helps catch those who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
We are the backbone of a network of agency experts, residents who know their communities best, and donors like you who build capacity and leadership, amplify impact, advance inclusion and solidify collective action. Last year we supported 106 local programs that helped over 143,500 families and neighbours. United Way is the nucleus of this network. We invest in the programs that deliver the greatest impact, and focus on building capacity within our funded agencies.
How your gift transforms lives
Your generosity bolsters our efforts to provide funding to countless agencies and programs that serve our community. Whether it’s supporting shelters, after-school programs, mental health services, or food banks, United Way Halton & Hamilton ensures your donations directly translate into meaningful, on-the-ground support for those most vulnerable.
Your gift, regardless of its size, has a ripple effect that reaches far and wide, touching lives and strengthening the social fabric of our community.
An example of support in action We are proud to partner on strategic initiatives that support our mission in new ways. The 211 program is a great example of this. 211 is a lifeline for those in need. It’s a three-digit number that connects people to essential community services and resources. Whether someone is struggling with employment, needs food or sheltering assistance, or is seeking mental health support, 211 is a powerful tool that helps individuals find the right services at the right time. It’s free, confidential, and available 365 days a year in over 150 languages via phone, text and chat, and online.
Your donation allows us to expand and improve our 211 program, ensuring even more people can access the help they need and providing individuals facing crisis situations with a compassionate voice on the other end of the line.
This year you can make a greater impact!
As Giving Tuesday encourages us to reflect on our capacity for kindness, empathy, and change, I implore you to join us in making a difference. This year, Giving Tuesday gifts will be generously matched by Leggat Auto Group, receiving a remarkable boost of up to $5,000! And that’s not all. The profound impact of your contribution will be further magnified through our Local Love Community Match, creating a ripple effect that makes this day of giving the most impactful yet!
On this Giving Tuesday, let’s come together as a community, embracing our shared responsibility to make Halton & Hamilton a better place for all. Your gift is a beacon of hope, lighting the way for those in need, and together, we can make a lasting and positive impact. Help us make a difference and donate today at uwhh.ca.
Sincerely,
