Hundreds across Halton and Hamilton volunteer stand up to the pandemic for Show Your Local Love Day

HALTON & HAMILTON, May 27, 2021 – On May 26, 266 volunteers across Halton & Hamilton came together in a multitude of online projects to support local, United Way-funded agencies for Show Your Local Love Day.

This community-based initiative supported frontline agencies and individuals, who are being affected by the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteers were able to share their time and talent from their homes in support of their local heroes.

“Together with our dedicated supporters in the community, we can show our support for the most vulnerable, and our appreciation for the frontline workers and agencies across Burlington, Halton Hills, Hamilton, Milton and Oakville.” says Brad Park, president and CEO of United Way Halton & Hamilton.

“Show Your Local Love Day continues to be an incredible success. To our gracious volunteers who participated, thank you for rallying together to rebuild our community,” says Park.

Whether it was holding virtual workout sessions with seniors and their caregivers, creating fun outdoor kits for kids in need, making an isolated person smile by sending a greeting card, or recording a recreational activity to be used in Learning @ Home programming, Show Your Local Love Day participants were able to create meaningful impact in community.

United Way holds a unique position and rich history of community collaboration. Through an unparalleled and distinct ability to convene, the entire community benefits from driving dialogue together with Labour, government, private sector, non-profit and volunteers, to mobilize change on our toughest issues.

Last year, the United Way campaign helped improve the lives of 274,500 people in Halton and Hamilton.
