United Way Halton & Hamilton hosts Virtual Impact Report launch to showcase the power of community support
HALTON & HAMILTON, Friday, June 26 – Over the past year, great milestones have been achieved in supporting those most vulnerable in our community. Thanks to local residents and donors, United Way Halton & Hamilton has helped to create an incredible impact in our community, together.
United Way recognized the accomplishments of the community with an exclusive virtual launch event for the 2019-2020 Impact Report, where we announced vital figures that highlight local pressing issues, such as domestic violence, mental illness, unemployment, homelessness, education inequality, social isolation, poverty and hunger.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, United Way Halton & Hamilton revamped our annual Impact Report Launch Event, as an exclusive virtual experience. The event was streamed online on June 25, 2020, as part of an interactive webcast.
“The Impact Report is an important tool to communicate our donors’ impact, through stories and statistics,” says Brad Park, president and CEO of United Way Halton & Hamilton, and host of the event. “The success of the 2019-2020 campaign was made possible because of you – the changemakers who continue to inspire me with your compassion and generosity. You are true champions.”
The Impact Report shows how your United Way is addressing fundamental societal issues including:
- 1 in 4 Ontario students experience bullying and/or cyberbullying.
United Way Halton & Hamilton invested in 43 programs that helped 89,017 children and youth.
- 1 in 5 people struggle with mental illness and of those, only 1 in 3 seek help.
United Way Halton & Hamilton invested in 69 programs that helped 68,104 people who face mental health issues.
- 35,000 Canadians are homeless on any given night.
United Way Halton & Hamilton invested in 16 programs that helped 52,074 people who live in poverty.
In addition to the unveiling of the new Impact Report to donors, dignitaries, and community leaders, a panel of experts discussed the power of community support. They also highlighted the importance of collaboration between agencies to tackle local, pressing issues as we rally together to rebuild our community’s social safety net.
Panelists included:
